The Institute has been founded by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic.
Its activities are based on provisions of the relevant pieces of legislation - in particular Act No. 378/2007 Coll., on Pharmaceuticals
Another pieces of national legislationwhich provide for the activities/responsibilities of the Institute are as follows (non-exhaustive list):

The Institute carries out responsibilities in the areas of regulation of veterinary medicines, veterinary non-medicinal products (bordeline products) and veterinary technical devices.
In addition to the national legislation, the Institute carries out activities according to the requirements of directly applicable EU legislation, in particular Regulation (EC) No. 726/2004, and regulation (EC) No. 470/2009. The Institute co-operates closely with the other bodies of the state administration, in particular with the Stzate Veterinary Administration, Regional Veterinary Administrations, State Institute for Drug Control, Central Control and Testing Institute in Agriculture, State Phytosanitary Administration as well as with professional institutions and groups.

The Institute for State Control of Veterinary Biologicals and Medicines makes its annual report on the Institute´s activities public, according to § 99, Paragraph 1, Letter n) of the Act No. 378/2007 Coll., on Pharmaceuticals and on amendments to certain related Acts, as amended.
The annual reports on activities of the Institute for State Control of Veterinary Biologicals and Medicaments are published on this page starting from the year of 2007.
In case of interest in obtaining an Annual report from an earlier date, you can make a request to the Institute for State Control of Veterinary Biologicals and Medicines, on the basis of the Act on Free Access to Information No. 106/1999 Coll. The Institute will provide the report in printed version subject to charging a fee in accordance with the List of fees for transactions costs related to an information provision and library support services.(see guidelines ÚSKVBL/UST - 01/2008 and ÚSKVBL - 02/2008).
